Retail Lending Market Trend

Speaker: Bhavesh Jain, Chief Revenue Officer

India’s retail credit market continued its growth momentum with consumption-led demand driving the need for credit. Compared to previous year, credit supply (originations) continued to grow, and portfolio performance remained stable for most products. In contrast, India’s large young population along with low credit penetration in the new-to credit segment, offers huge potential for accelerating credit growth and increasing financial inclusion.

In this session, we will deep dive into the insights on contemporary credit trends and deliberate on its implications for India’s credit market. We will present data across four pillars- demand, supply, consumer behavior and performance and showcase emerging opportunities on key credit products.

11:45 am - 12:45 pm

Credit Education: Empowering Consumers, Enabling Financial Inclusion

Speaker: Nidhi Verma, Head – International Research and Consulting, TransUnion

The pandemic and its impact on consumer finance has accelerated the use of credit monitoring in both developed and developing markets around the world since early 2020. Consumers are increasingly aware of the importance of building and maintaining a credit history and its role for accessing credit.  This is key to enabling financial inclusion.

We conducted a global study to track millions of consumers in markets around the world who started monitoring their credit through TransUnion for the first time. The purpose of this study was to better understand the different profiles, motivations and outcomes of credit monitoring consumers.

In this session we will showcase the findings of this study in which we analyzed credit behaviors of consumers in six markets: Canada, Colombia, Hong Kong, India, South Africa and the United States.

MSME Lending Market Trend

Speaker: Natarajan Ramani, Chief Product Officer

MSME sector is a catalyst for growth and forms the backbone of India’s economy. Growth momentum in this sector continues due to increasing demand and stable performance. However, insights show that only about one-third of MSMEs in India are served through formal credit ecosystem. This indicates significant opportunities for increasing credit penetration and tapping growth in this key sector.

In this session we will deep dive into the latest market insights on the MSME sector across four pillars of demand, supply, performance, and borrower attributes.

3:00 pm – 3:45 pm

MSME – Sectoral analysis

Speaker: Vipul Mahajan, Head – Commercial Business, TransUnion CIBIL

The progressive reforms initiated by the government have successfully revived the MSME sector, which is reflected in strong business activity and improved lending to the micro and small segment. With growing demand, improved credit performance and promising economic growth prospects, the time is conducive for lenders to expand their MSME credit portfolios. The credit industry must provide timely access to credit for MSMEs across various sectors within the industry. This will help achieve sustained growth and contribute to government’s USD 5 trillion economy objective.
